Description
History tells that in the Villa de La Orotava there were up to 13 gofio mills, where people from all over the Valley and even from distant lands came in search of this so venerated food. This blessed dust has relieved countless fatigues and has adorned with joy times of great hardship. Acequias, arquerías, buckets, hoppers, bocines, chabocos, tanquillas, water troughs, jets and washing places are the guardians of a not so distant past, a way of living and subsisting where water played a primordial role since the XVI century. In this route called 'A los molinos de la Villa, a moler gofio se vino', we pay tribute to the hydraulic heritage that still breathes in these streets of the north of Tenerife and to the essential food of the Canary Islanders, after five centuries of history. The mills, taking advantage of the force of the water, generated the necessary energy to carry out the magical task of grinding the toasted grain. Of these mills, ten survive, located on an imaginary 'water way', the canal that joins them, where there were also public washing and drinking troughs, today considered ethnographic treasures. During our tour, we will be able to reveal their secrets and curiosities, discovering a part of the splendid Villa de La Orotava that seems to have fallen into a sweet lethargy, but wakes up every morning with the sound of the wheels of the two mills that are still dancing in their work and where we will have the opportunity to taste this delicious delicacy and visit one of its mills exclusively.Includes
